Blog Noir. An interplay of cultural references, snark, the occasional smutty joke, Dadaism, Mamaism, and a genuine outrage at the horrors of The Situation.

Molestation fearmongering in four easy steps

1. Prey on Fears of Child Molestation to Commit Vote Fraud

Jacoby's arrest by state investigators and the Ontario Police Department late Saturday came after dozens of voters said they were duped into registering as Republicans by people employed by YPM. The voters said YPM workers tricked them by saying they were signing a petition to toughen penalties against child molesters.

[Evan Halper, "Ontario police arrest man in voter fraud case" LA Times, 10/20/08

2. Accuse your Opponent of Being a Child Molester

As you can see, the McCain ad says that Obama was the one who pushed the "comprehensive sex education" measure. The Obama campaign has pointed out that the bill would simply add instruction on disease prevention to already existing Illinois sex-ed standards. But the McCain campaign cheerfully turned this into Obama's support for "learning about sex before learning to read."

[Greg Sargent, "New McCain Ad Falsely Suggests Obama Wants Kids To Learn 'About Sex Before Learning To Read'" 9/9/08]

3. Use Office to Heighten Fear of Child Molesters

More than convicted 500,000 sex offenders now live in the United States. Of those, about 100,000 to 150,000 are missing - roaming the streets with no one watching over them. According to the U.S. Justice Department, released sex offenders are 4 times more likely to be rearrested. And, on average, child molesters serve only 43 percent of their sentence. These statistics are frightening. We need to stop playing Russian roulette with children's lives. We need to stop these pedophiles now... As case after case of missing or abducted children is broadcast, many parents wonder if their child is safe. Every day that goes by without this bill is another day we risk another victim. Now, more than ever, we need to stand together and unite cities, communities and states in the effort to stop the assault on America's children.

4. Send Text Message to your High School Age Page

Xxxxxxxxx (7:19:38 PM): ya go vote...i dont want to keep you from doing your job

Maf54 (7:19:44 PM): can I have a good kiss goodnight

Xxxxxxxxx (7:19:50 PM): :-*

"What did your mother and I tell you about watching the commercials?"

"That if they need commercials to sell it, it isn't worth buying."

"That's right kids, they're either selling you a price that's too high, or a need that isn't necessary, or a superiority that is superfluous."
